The dawn of a new day, we embrace and
absorb the sights and sounds...trekking out
along the ridgeway...breathing in scents of
nature, motivates all of our desires to be alive,
along hedgerows and bushes, a thrush sings
out her song of joy...as sparrows join in the
early morning chorus...seeming to play hide,
come seek, in undergrowth worms gratify.
As morning drifts into afternoon, the village
we reach, a welcome sight, to rest a while...
to quench our thirst...some food to eat, then
once again we're on our way fervent as ever,
we meander through ancient churchyard,
funny how these places can effect the mood,
our thoughts turn fragile for tranquil peace...
with only the rustling of the age old leaves,
the crows with a piercing caw nesting high
in the trees, cry out to the sounds of danger,
for they are the hells angels of the skies...
they stand for no nonsense with their thick
black plumage, and huge big staring eyes.
As evening approaches...sun sets on a fire
clad sky, we drift back to our tent...night-time
sounds play with our imagination, as in torch
light beam, a barn owl's image illuminated...
soaring, shrieking to look upon its lying kill.
A slow release of rain falling...breaking our
sweet thoughts, driving us for to finally fall
into weary slumber, our dreams of tomorrow
of a glorious new day...that's not too far away.

This is lovely, Jenny. Putting that 'thinking-cap' on seems to have paid off;-)
This stanza, for me, really stood out:-
"we meander through ancient churchyard,
funny how these places can effect the mood,
our thoughts turn fragile for tranquil peace...
with only the rustling of the age old leaves,"
Another fine poem to be proud of, added to your ever growing collection.
Tina
PS, just popped back to say, I like the title. That song by the 'New Faces' the sixties group, I think, but correct me if I wrong, which I probably am;-)
jolono | February 1, 2012 - 15:32
Lovely stuff Jenny. Really enjoyed this. Crows being decribed as hells angels of the skies! Wonderfull stuff.
skinner_jennifer | February 1, 2012 - 15:43
Thankyou so much Tina,
yes my thinking cap seems to have worked, though it
did take me ages to put it together.
I'm so pleased you enjoyed this poem and I agree
that stanza is one of my favourites.
Oh by the way that title came from the Small Faces
record, so you were nearly right. One of my favourite
bands of the sixties.
Thankyou again for reading and really appreciate you letting me know.
Jenny.
skinner_jennifer | February 1, 2012 - 15:46
Hi jolono,
glad you picked up on that line about the hells
angels of the skies, it's kind of how I see these
birds.
I'm more that appreciative of you reading, it helps
to know you enjoyed and thankyou for telling me.
Jenny.
Silver Spun Sand | February 1, 2012 - 15:56
Well, I was nearly right;-) Of course it was the Small Faces. Said I always get things wrong. Didn't they also record something called 'Itchycoo Park?, or am I completely bonkers?
Tina
skinner_jennifer | February 1, 2012 - 16:01
Nope Tina, you're not bonkers at all, they did,
and that's where the title of my poem came from,
Itchycoo Park, I just love that title and Steve
Marriot was so dishy!
By the way, 'I'ts all too beautiful,'
wasn't the name of a record, so I must be going
bonkers as well.
Jenny.
Silver Spun Sand | February 1, 2012 - 19:28
Course it wasn't...as you say, Jenny, it was indeed the chorus to the 'itchy one';-)
shoe | February 1, 2012 - 19:59
This is such a lovely poem,
'our thoughts turn fragile for tranquil peace...
with only the rustling of the age old leaves,'
I liked theses lines especially but there's a beautiful arrangement of words throughout.
scratch | February 1, 2012 - 21:58
Jolono's right on it. Crows as "hells Angels" nothing wrong with that.
skinner_jennifer | February 2, 2012 - 09:32
Thanks as always for coming back to me Tina.

thankyou for letting me know, it's always

Hi there scratch,
I'm one of those people that studies the way birds
act in the garden and I do enjoy watching them so
much, which is how I came up with the association.
Thankyou for reading and taking the time out to let
me know your thoughts, always appreciated.
Jenny.

I always take time out to read your stuff Jenny and am never disappointed. Loved all the bird allegories here- great business. I also liked that you slept in a tent. I did that a lot when I was younger.. such a good way to get close to nature. Thanks for this brilliant read.

Good morning Pia,
I only wish that I could like camping as much as I
used too, but I'm afraid I would get to many aches
and pains now, like the comfort of my bed too much.
Glad you like the bits about the birds, it was a
real brain wracker, that's the only way to describe
this poem.
Thankyou for reading and leaving such a great
comment.

Thankyou so much julie, I loved your comment, it
cheered me up so much.
I'm afraid haven't had much warmth since Friday,
our boiler broke down, so we've had no heating and
no hot water, but hoping to get it fixed tomorrow.
Anyway back to your comment, I just love nature
and the beauty all around, which is so inspiring,
as is your comment.
Thankyou again and you keep warm.
Jenny.
PS Glad you liked the title.

Hi julie,
it's okay, I have been boiling saucepans and kettle
for hot water, but we have cold water, so we're
able to use the taps and the loo. They are coming
out this morning to fix it, so I'm so relieved.
Will have a long soak in the bath, once it's fixed,
'can't wait!' trouble is, we all want to be the first
to have one. My son has been saying, all weekend,
"when's the plumber coming? I need a bath."
I just kept saying, "don't we all want a bath?"
Oh well! it won't be long now. Thankyou for coming
back to me anyway.
Jenny.xx
Silver Spun Sand | February 7, 2012 - 09:01
Hope your heating's fixed today, Jenny. I shall keep my fingers crossed (and my toes). The last few days must have been awful for you.
Tina
skinner_jennifer | February 7, 2012 - 11:42
Dear Tina,
thankyou so much for your thoughtful comment. We
have at last got the heating and hot water back on,
so we can relax once again. Yes you are right, it
has been a nightmare, but boy do I appreciate the
heat and hot water now.
Thankyou again for your kind thoughts.
Jenny.
Rhiannonw | February 10, 2012 - 17:06
Jenny, I just noticed this, a bit behind the times, i must have missed it one day. Glad I found it, gives the feeling of a noticing ramble/camp in the country. Nice. Thanks.
Rhiannon
skinner_jennifer | February 10, 2012 - 17:20
Thanks for reading Rhiannon. There's certainly
nothing like a ramble in the country, one of my
favourite things to do. It's funny how people say,
"Hello!" when you're in the country, but wouldn't
dream of it in town, probably because they're more
relaxed.
Anyway thanks again for reading and for your lovely
comment.
Jenny.
