Lady of the Woods

from the ABC set Poems

Oh Silver Birch by
Moonlight Shine...
Soft Whispers race,
through your dainty
leaves divine,

with Feminine touch
you nourish the earth,
beneath your trunk...
where all of nature's
flowers choose to grow,

fungi suckle at your roots -
the Milkcap and Chanterelle,
thrive in the depths of your
adopted form - a safe haven
for them and others to dwell,

my therapeutic friend
your column stands so
tall and proud...a
century come and gone
where memories linger on,

your leaves take shape
below pendulous...
downy - silky flowers
resembling yellow...
weeping caterpillars
ready for to fall,

many legends follow you, for you
are made of Male and Female Form,
with Splendour you dance on as one.

This is really beautiful, Jenny. (Just needs an apostrophe. I.e. "nature's flowers")

I liked this stanza especially...fond of mushrooms as I am:-)

"fungi suckle at your roots -
the Milkcap and Chanterelle,
thrive in the depths of your
adopted form - a safe haven
for them and others to dwell..."

I too love the Silver Birch. We are lucky to have some in our garden that shade our little vegetable patch. Beautiful trees indeed;-)

The Birch always reminds me of gumtrees- from my childhood in Aussie. Thanks for bringing back the memory Jenn- a beautiful poem this
love this :

your leaves take shape
below pendulous...
downy - silky flowers
resembling yellow...
weeping caterpillars
ready for to fall,

this is the danish birch too

Hi Tina,

oops! I'm always so sure I get everything right,
where would I be without you. I shall put the
opostrophe in, as soon as I've replied to your
comment.

Thankyou for letting me know you enjoyed it,
they certainly are beautiful trees. I got to
plant two, when the local council asked the
public to create a forest, I named them
Jasmin and Willow, I know its a strange name for
two Silver Berch trees, but I liked the names, so
I went with the flow and the names came into my
mind.

Anyway Tina thankyou for reading and the help.

Jenny.

Hi Pia,

didn't know the Birch tree was like the Aussie
Gum tree, well I've learnt something new.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading this little ditty,
glad it could conjure up some memories for you.

Hope you are well and enjoying plenty of Sunshine.

Thankyou for reading and leaving a comment, you
know I always appreciate it.

Jenny.

They are lovely names, Jenny, and I am really encouraged that your local council have started such a project, and may all the trees grow tall, and strong.

I really enjoyed this poem Jenny - I love silver birches, except possibly the one in my garden which is too near my house and getting to the age when it might just keel over (hopefully in the opposite direction!) A beautiful and accurate description.

One little typo at the end of the first stanza - should be divine

skinner_jennifer | July 29, 2011 - 09:15

Hi Tina,

thanks for coming back to me. Yes I thought it was
a wonderful idea, it was such a wonderful feeling
planting them aswell.

Hope you're having a good day.

Jenny.

skinner_jennifer | July 29, 2011 - 09:18

Hello insert,

glad you enjoyed this poem, it was one of those
nature ideas that just had to be written down.

Thankyou for your help with the typo and reading,
it's much appreciated.

I'm not particularly "into nature" having lived in concrete slabs and cities my whole life but this piece made me want to find the nearest forest and roll around in the soil. This is really, really beautiful.

skinner_jennifer | August 2, 2011 - 09:27

Thankyou for reading maggy, I'm glad I could bring
a little nature into your life with this poem.

Thankyou so much for reading and letting me know
your thoughts.

Jenny.

MistakenMagic | August 2, 2011 - 10:25

Really stunning, Jenny - magical, actually ;) Well done on the cherry!

skinner_jennifer | August 2, 2011 - 11:00

Hello Magic,

I really do appreciate you reading this and letting
me know your thoughts and I take it as a real
compliment, coming from such a talant as yourself.

Thankyou so much.

Jenny.xxx

RachelPatricia | August 3, 2011 - 14:40

Many congrats with this, Jenny - very magical, as Magic so rightly said, and I too wanted to 'do a Maggy' and roll in some fresh earth! I adore nature and trees and have actually got two little apple trees growing in pots in my yard that the children started from seeds last summer. They're the pride and joy of all my gardening experiments and I simply can't wait for the day I climb up into their limbs and pick my first apple and rest there with a good book - just need a bit of land for them because they're not going to thrive much in the farty little terracotta pots they're in at the minute - want a tree? ;)

Really enjoyed this, your love for all things green and glorious shines through in every stanza and, like FB, I think this is my new favourite of yours - it's hard to beat The Chosen Ones, but this comes very close ;)

skinner_jennifer | August 3, 2011 - 15:05

Hi Rachel,

that's wonderful about your two apple trees. You
know the apple is very magical and the tree even
more so. I would say the quicker you get them in
the ground the faster they will grow. I can really
picture you sitting in an apple tree writing your
prose, 'and what a wonderful place it is.'

Thankyou so much for reading this poem and for
the wonderful comment, you always manage to make
my day with your words, they are so interesting.

Hope you manage to grow to fine apple trees and
have many hours of pleasure with them.

Jenny.

Wow, such a beautiful piece! I have never read anything so amazingly peacful... By far, this is probably one of the best poems I have ever read before... Wow...

I hope you write more of them because I want to read more.

Savannah

skinner_jennifer | August 3, 2011 - 18:49

Hello Savannah,

thankyou so much for your really kind comment, I
feel very humbled by your words.

You have really made my day and I hope you have a
peaceful evening.

Thankyou again.

new skinner-Jennifer
congrats; on the cherry!
well deserved, Really magical poem
of true beauty of nature, especially the
way you have written it. I have and in some gardens,
little sprigs of silver root leaves, is that Silver Birch too? I tried a cherry stone, took 2 years before anything showed?
The words of this poem are excellent, magical like fairies dancing in a ring, spiritually. Most have said, but this is therapeutic too, people no gardens,
can imagine and experience colour's and names, you have woven, written into it. Names I don't know can look up and read about. Just beautiful! Or some have only window boxes. Thankyou.
julie xx If haven't said broadbands back on 48 hr wait. Do you want me delete, long letter.
"jazz" the cat "Green Eyes! been in and laying on duvet, crying, mine put his head round door low, cried like Jazz does, in came, as usual Answers us.
Lays on table, and rubbing his chin on computer screen, beautiful. And I don't know how long took for you to do this poem, must be very pleased!
Results. Sun is shining here, got clear up.
Have a good week-end.
julie xx

skinner_jennifer | August 5, 2011 - 14:06

Hi julie,

that was an amazing comment and it made me very
happy to read it. I had a lot of fun writing the
poem, I suppose because of my love of nature.

You do what you thinks best with the long newsy
comment, I don't mind if you leave it on, its up
to you. I really did enjoy hearing about your life,
it sounded like its been very hard for you, but I'm
sure its made you a stronger person, for what you've
been through, I'm sure you would agree.

Anyway julie I hope you have a great weekend and
the sun shines for you. Take care.

Jenny.
