The Land that is Mine

from the ABC set Poems

I'm elusive and strange...
showers splash over me as I
take on an ever changing form,
my many shades of pink alter as
sunlight reflects on my petals,

a prick of my thorny limbs
can pierce the skin...behold
such beauty and pain together,

my one bud once so compact it
stands so tall and proud...
now spreads out like mountains
across a fresh seeded valley,

I open wide my petals to the
great ever changing vastness of
space...no more the sky to see
only the earth...my many winged
shapes weaken cut off from my core,

dissolving to the soil once more...
again to nourish and sustain my
roots...the Land that is mine.

I can visualise a St Ives scene here, a soft water colour.
Nice one.

Hi there ScoZen,

this was a poem I wrote, about a rose bush in my
back garden, it sits right outside my kitchen
window. It's lost a lot of petals, but there are
loads of new buds appearing, not yet opened. I do
love roses and especially the fragrant ones. The
bush in my garden is over thirty years old, I only
know this, because my neighbour told me.

Anyway I'm glad I could conjure up a scene for you.

Thankyou for reading and letting me know your thoughts, always appreciated.

Jenny.

Definitely a little gem and corker!
Just love it and can picture it.
And be able to admire the beauty of all.
Ah! "For the beauty of the earth"
'Father unto the we praise, this our sacrifice of praise.' What a beautiful poem, well exploited in
magical colours and phrases. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Thirty years, that's getting, hope for me yet!
"I'm just watching flowers in the rain". Great
explain like you have the touch you have. Quite right the land is our's. some being ruined every day.

Dear julie,

thankyou for your wonderful comment, it makes my day
to know that you too appreciate the wonders of
nature. It's amazing if you look deeply enough at
flowers, how much beauty there actually is.

Anyway julie, thankyou again for reading and that
wonderful comment.

Jenny.
