Let him Shine this Man of Words!

from the ABC set Poems

They called him the Lizard King
he said he could do anything...
getting lost in his desert dreams,

and with his spellbinding voice
I close my eyes look deep inside...
he takes me on a magic carpet ride,

to some he was a troubled man
they thought he'd lost his way,
but to me he was a great poet
touching people with his words,

looking deep inside his soul
words would spill out,
like water cascading
down a waterfall,

his younger days
there's not much known
he was an admiral's son,
a rebel - a free spirit...
he talked of dead Indians
entering his very soul,

the Doors of perception
opening his mind,
expanding drugs
taking him to Nether Worlds...
a place a man could loose himself,
strange days he encountered
out there in the desert,

but he died alone on the 3rd of July 1971
probably just waiting for the sun...
his poetry lives on,
his grave is a shrine
for those that grew to love this man
and there he'll always Shine.

beautiful - i firmly believe he has influenced many of us.

Constructive crit - if you want it.. don't read past this if you don't...............................................

(whispers) I'd have started with

"They called him the Lizard King..."

much stronger start - the first two stanza's might have been better further down.

No thankyou maisie,

it's surprising what others can see, that I can't
sometimes, so I'm very grateful.

Hi there Tina,

your kind words are appreciated and I'm glad that
you found it a fitting tribute.

I've been playing his music all day to day and lit
a candle in rememberance of him.

It's really amazing that this man is, just as popular
today as he was over 40 years ago.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Thankyou.

Jenny.

`the Doors of perception
opening his mind'

very good Jenny. And wasn't he beautiful? Certainly lit my fire!!

I still love The Doors even after 20 odd years - some of there stuff feels timeless and I spent far too many inebriated/stoned evenings in my youth with one album or another as a soundtrack. Thanks for the memories. :-)

Hi coral,

yes he certainly was a beautiful man, who captured
many womens hearts. His air of mystery is probably
what made women go wild for him.

I'm glad you liked my tribute to him. Thankyou for
letting me know and reading.

Jenny.

Hi FB,

hey glad I could stir some memories for you, it's
those memories that we can take with us into old
age, that keep us so excited about music, I know
I certainly have many.

You too have a great way with words, that is the
magic of poetry, that the great man himself had,
so you never know, you too could be another Jim
Morrison, who's poetry comes spilling out for us
to read.

I certainly think you have a great talant.

Have a great week.

Jenny.

The words to most of Jim Morrison's best known lyrics are in fact those of William Blake. I'm not aware that he ever acknowledged this. Even the origin of the name the Doors as correctly quoted is William Blake. His own efforts are more stuff like “My silk is your shine, your milk is my wine”.

It seems Morrison's personal philosophy was some curious confusion of hedonism and christianity. He was a man of great energy and born a leader. The Doors at their best has to have been of the greatest rock bands I would certainly call him visionary. My choice would be “Hyacinth House”, “The WASP” and “Ghost Song”.
