It was becoming uncomfortable for Red Deer, the nest was very confined, he found himself lying all
curled up, clutching his knees into his belly.
He was able to peer through some twigs, that the
Eagle had for nesting material. His mind wandered
to how thirsty he had become, but there wasn't
anything for it...but to lay in wait.
Suddenly after a while, he looked up to the sky,
there circling above was the Eagle, 'at last, it
returns,' thought Red Deer.
The Eagle suddenly landed and perched on the edge
of its nest, squawking wildly, then it leant its
head into the nest, almost as if it knew Red Deer
was there.
A thought entered Red Deers mind, as he stared at
the Eagle...staring back at him, it was almost as
if the Eagle were talking to him.
'You seek one of my feathers boy, you wish to
become a man, you have come far...all these things
I know. Don't fear me boy, for I will pluck a
feather that you will be proud of.'
All of a sudden the Eagle grasping one of its
feathers, plucked it...and placed it in the nest
gently with its long pointed beak. Turning and
squawking the Eagle flew off.
Again in his mind, Red Deer hear a voice. 'Go boy,
leave my nest...don't look back. As soon as the
Eagle had gone, Red Deer feeling very stiff, came
out from his hiding place. Stretching he looked
around, the Sun was now blazing in the blue sky.
He knew he had to get back down the rock face, as
soon as possible.
He picked up the feather, he noticed how right the
Eagle was, it was beautiful, a perfect feather.
'Little Bird and his Mother and Father, would be
proud of him!'
The rock face had been a lot easier to climb up...
than to climb down. Eventually however he managed
to reach the bottom.
Standing once more again on solid ground, he
recognized the path, he had walked along, he knew
he needed to get back to the cave, to shelter from
the hot Sun.
He was extremely thirsty and hungry by now, but
having no bow and arrows, or spear, or water, he
thought he would die.
He managed to find the cave, he sat in the entrance, out of the blazing Sun. It was certainly
a lot cooler. Still clutching his feather, he fell
into a deep sleep.
To be continued .............

This is lovely, Jenny, and am really enjoying it. How right you are about it being easier to climb up a rock-face than down. In my very limited experience of mountain climbing, it was always the downhill journey that was the most taxing;-)

Hey Jennifer! very moving tale...will look forward for next episode. Just tiny thing nagging me; what weapon was the deer supposed to have?

Hi Sharmi,
I'm glad that you are enjoying this tale. You are
right, I really suppose I should have let the reader
know of his bow and arrows and spear, that he
sharpened out of wood, it's just that when I started
the story back last year, all this was revealed.
You see Red Deer had been kidnapped and taken into
the canyons, but he has been given a sleeping potion,
so he has no idea of where he is.
If you go to my account, you can read my story from
the beginning, that's if you want to ofcourse.
I hope that answers your question, but thankyou again
for reading, hope you enjoy the rest of the story.
Jenny.
