REMEMBERING MY LATE MUM AT SAMHAIN

from the ABC set Poems

The time is nearly Samhain,
when we remember dead loved ones again,
although they are long gone,
their memory still lingers on.

Sometimes when I'm quiet,
her voice will fill the air,
in dreams I sometimes see her,
she can lift me from my despair.

She loved to tend her garden,
flowers were her thing,
when cooking in the kitchen,
she would love to sing.

She tried to give me good advice,
but I didn't always listen,
when the time came I needed to talk,
she would always give an opinion.

I remember as a young child,
the time she spent with me,
colouring books, doing puzzles,
reading to me after tea.

She had a hard life this is true,
It took her a long time to figure what to do,
her heart was always in the right place,
perhaps in the end this was her fate.

I hope in my heart of hearts,
that her soul is at rest at last,
because she has left a mark upon,
this earthly life that I live on.

A fond memory of your Mother put very well into a poem. I like the nice and easy rhyme- I think it may have been difficult but you pulled it off well Jenny.

Oh Pia,
Your kind words mean so much to me, it's kind of
hard for me at this time of the year. I like to get
all the old photo's out and look back.

I shouldn't really, cause it just upsets me, but it's
also a way of keeping their spirit with me, which is
important.

Thankyou again Pia.
Jenny xx

Yes that's what it's like looking at the old photographs and in a way it's really nice remembering them for who they were and the parents they were as well- for good and for bad- don't you think?

Oh yes definitely, for the good and the bad.
It proves one thing, that however many arguments you
might have had, they fall into insignificance when
someone dies.
Jenny.

Those first two stanzas ring very true Jenny - sometimes feels like certain memories are so vivid that when I snap out of it, i'm surprised to find them not there. Two lovely truthful portraits. :-)

Thankyou so much fatboy74,
yes I know what you mean, I thought over the years
that the memories might go, but at this time of the
year they seem to get stronger.
Your comments were very comforting, it's nice to
know there are others out there, that understand
what it's like.
Thankyou,
Jenny.

Something of the spiritual in this, The end is especially moving.

oops...

skinner_jennifer | October 28, 2010 - 11:27

thankyou shoe,
yes I can honestly say, there is something spiritual
in those words. I don't think it's until you loose
someone, do you actually realise what an impression
they had on you.

Thankyou for enjoying.
Jenny.
