A RENAISSANCE TALE

from the ABC set Poems

The heavy velvet tapestry
hung on the wall of the
Maiden's bedchamber,

she brushes her waist length hair
while admiring her reflection...
her bosom lifted high,

anticipating her lady in waiting,
there is a knock at the door -
"enter!" the Maiden quietly whispers,

"my lady... may I dress you?"
she enquires of the Maiden fair,
her Gown hung like an Angel in mid air,

luminating, captivating...
each encrusted jewel radiant,
sparkling in the bright candle light,

the Red Velvet gown
this Maiden took down...
was opulent and grand,

ready and prepared
she leaves her bedchamber
moving down the passageway,

descending the staircase
simply gliding
as she sweeps along,

entering the magnificent splendour
of the King's Court - appropriate
for a Princess,

all eyes turn and focus
on this Maiden fair...
she would be the Belle of the Ball,

her Prince captivated - intoxicated
by her beauty...for she is the
King's Daughter and soon to be Wed.

You really did evoke 'times past' with this delightful poem.

A couple of minor points. You need an apostrophe in 'maiden's chamber' in the first stanza, and one in the third from last, i.e. 'king's court'. Also, should be 'radiant' in the fifth.

I like, very much, the way you describe her gown as hanging down 'like an angel in mid-air'.

You have a wonderfully vivid imagination, Jenny, and you paint, for the reader, an equally vivid picture with your words;-)

Hi Jenny,

Just logged on after a few days off. I like this one very much. As Tina said - evokes times past - You're very prolific, having trouble keeping up with all your output. Everything you write is very readable.

The mideval feel comes to life in this. Love it.

skinner_jennifer | June 15, 2011 - 11:53

Hello L G Meadows,

that was exactly what I was trying to capture, being
a lover of all things Mediaeval, is what inspired me
to write this piece.

Thankyou so much for reading and letting me know
your thoughts, it's much appreciated.

Reminds me of that wonderful folk song, 'the queen and the soldier' I think it's called, lovely Arthurian feel to it,

"her Gown hung like an Angel in mid air,"

A beautiful image, perfectly captured and framed in just a few words. The whole poem is magnificent and truly breathtaking. Personally, I'd give this a whole basketful of cherries ;-)

One of my favourites from you. Well done.
