Rhapsody in Blue

from the ABC set Poems

From the harbour bay
wandering along the cobbled streets,
when there I spy an
Old Curiosity Shop,
on entering a little bell rang -
once inside I gazed in wonder,

the musty redolence of age
fills me with anticipation
of times past - as I wander this
treasure trove of delights,

anticipation of long ago
classical...decorative works of art,
costume jewellery, rubies - emeralds...
gold and silver tantalize my senses,

then as I turned I was drawn
by the aesthetic image -
a Rhapsody in Blue...
a fairy tale fantasy,
a blue moon - so very rarely seen...
its radiance illuminates the sky,

a tree with golden leaves...
as Autumn softly welcomes Winter,
when from out of a hollow...
a faerie child pensively gazes,
soft milky white cheeks rest in hands...
her beautiful cherub features enchanting
to behold - such whimsical loveliness
swathed in blue lustrous satin,

her golden hair tied back in two plaits -
a blue satin band adorns around her crown,
her satin dress falls from her shoulders
giving her the look of a romany gypsy...
upon her arm - gold and blue pearls hang,

I think perhap she is dreaming of her rover,
her gypsy faerie prince...to wing their way
adventures to experience,

and so I take my leave
with my Rhapsody in Blue,
she will take pride of place
for everyone to thrill.

This such a joy to read, Jenny, and you have worked very hard on it, that is more than apparent.

And, what with Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue being one of my favourite pieces of music, this lovely poem couldn't fail.

Very much enjoyed;-)

Hi Tina,

I'm so pleased you liked this piece and that you
could appreciate the hard work that did go into
it, infact I was up till 3am this morning, putting
it together.

I too love that piece of music, the name just seemed
to come to me, from staring at the picture.

Again thankyou for reading and that wonderful comment.

Hello seashore,

you know this piece started from the harbour bay,
then I thought of cobbled streets, then the curiosity
shop and hey ho! it went from there.

I'm so happy that you enjoyed it, thankyou so much
for reading and letting me know.
