Unresolved Dream

from the ABC set Dreams

Cairn Terriers fly from tree to tree,
feathered wings start to appear
as Terriers take their places
amongst the leafy branches high,

Crows battle for their territory,
unaware of the terriers strength
and will to endure – remain alive.

A tall blonde with long white shirt
shivers slightly...high up on a limb,
arms outstretched she sniffs the air,
plunging backwards ready to fall...
her hair sweeping out from behind,

she stares wide-eyed at the cobalt sky,
then from nowhere a man appears...
reaching with outstretched arms to
clutch at her willowy...slender waist,

reckless and lost with such sadness...
she stares into the young man's eyes,
swollen with tears – as her arms sag
across his strong muscular shoulders,

he reads that look of a voyage of discovery,
so much information entrusted to this sage,
like a scientific experiment...she needs to
learn all she sees – hears and mostly feels,
a scholar he is not – but a man who exhales
deeply in the face of the hard truth of adversity.

The dogs send out their battle cry,
a bloodless blithe is not their concern,
the power of arrogance is their only
impudence – as the Crows cry out in pain.

I should have loved to have dreamed this dream, Jenny...cairn terriers, flying from tree to tree. At the time though, when we're dreaming, it all seems quite sensible, though, doesn't it?

I really enjoyed this. Very well written, but the last two stanzas especially.

There is one line really stands out for me and that is '...he reads that look of a voyage of discovery...' Brilliant imagery, this.

Was this a dream you had Jenny? A few strange things happened for sure- but that is the way dreams are. Nicely described

Hi Tina,

this certainly was a very strange dream, like you
said it seemed quite sensible while I was dreaming
it. I was actually stood in a strangers kitchen at
a party, looking out of the window, watching it all
happen. These cairn terriers had white feathered wings growing out of their backs.

Thankyou so much for reading this piece and letting
me know your thoughts on it.

Have a Sunny day.

Jenny.

Hi there Pia,

yes this was a dream, you're so right strange things
do happen in dreams. I was going to put this one
under dreams, but then I thought I could get away
with it being put under poetry.

I've been having some very vivid dreams lately,
that have fascinated me and I'm remembering them
too.

It's strange because Crows will attack anything that
comes near their nests in reality, but these Crows
were being carried off by the terriers, very strange!

I'm really grateful that you read this piece and
appreciate you letting me know.

Thankyou.

Jenny.

Very interesting poem.
Terrier's fly, had you eaten
cheese before bed.And a strong man's arms holding girl, muscular, how nice. I read a story
like horse that had wings 'Pegasus'
They say experts of dream' only remember,
last few minutes, of them till awake!
Some feel so real, don't they. But you could
have been there before young maybe, something
jolts the memory! Well your saving somebody!
Like the word Cobalt heard that in shop lady asked
me match something for her!
Stanza I like
starts Reckless and lost with such sadness..
she stares into the young man's eyes
Sometimes different things, if read or watched t.v
play on the mind. So try read something calming.
Maybe your psychic bit, I do sometimes canny?
Hot weather here. Jippy inside, ice cold drink think.
Out listening bands etc; great.
Fear one can talk or call out in sleep!
To busy in day, laugh! cry1 etc; way working it out
system.
all the best

Hi julie,

thankyou so much for reading this piece, I was
tempted to put it under dreams, might do even
yet.

I didn't eat cheese before going to bed, but I
did think about the dream a bit later, thinking
that perhaps all is not what it seems, as in the
fact that the white terriers looked so appealing,
but then attacked the crows, telling me that not
all that looks sweet and inocent, is really and
the crows, which are supposed to represent darkness,
were infact in my dream the good guys, it could be
something I was thinking about before I went to sleep, you can never tell, perhaps the girl was
myself and the man was an angel saving me.

I don't really know and probably never will, but I
do like to analyze dreams.

I really hope you are okay and I bet the beaches are
packed at your end of the world, I suppose we should
make the most of this weather, as it's only with us
till Monday, then it's supposed to change.

Well you take care julie and again thanks for reading
and leaving a comment, always appreciated.

I do love reading about your dreams, Jenny! Love the line about the 'cobalt sky' and the whole piece is very cinematic, could picture it perfectly and look forward to reading more :)

It's good to be back, Jenny - I've missed you all :)

Certainly have been enjoying the weather, just feel sorry for the kids - the summer hols were a wash-out and now we get this and they're back at school, doesn't seem fair on them really but they definitely make the most of it when they get home, they're never in these days! ;)

Lovely to hear from you too - going to have to do some serious catching-up on everyone's writing as I've missed so much.

Hope you are well too and have a peaceful weekend yourself :)

If all your dreams are this strange Jenny you have a wonderful imagination! :)

skinner_jennifer | October 17, 2011 - 20:03

Hi Kahadai,

I'm afraid that sometimes my imagination goes into
overdrive, but yes this dream certainly was strange.

Thankyou for reading and letting me know your thoughts.
