When a King passed away

from the ABC set Poems

His corpse lay
buried in decay,
remains of a King
who died on that day,
in battle he fought
a coward he was not,
conquering the enemy
his Queen kissed his memory.

The battle was bloody,
his knights by his side...
as they advanced forward,
on horses breathless they ride,

with anticipation they
charge...side by side,
sniffing, wind...rain,
gusting the tempestuous air...
they gallop like thunder,
riders blood boils...
no room for blunder,

as the enemy collides
beneath black – stormy skies,
swords drawn in defiance...
with wrath in their eyes,

by order of the King...
they launched the attack,
bodies collide – enemy at
their bloody back,

the emblem the dragon
ever defiant, in victory...
agonizing – savaged bodies
lay lifeless and still...
all part of the histories will,

profound...a damaged King
pierced through the heart...
fell to his death from his
old battle horse...now to depart,

the fighting then ended...
King's blade held high,
their victory not lost
under that stormy sky,
for though the King died
a champion...the Queen's
lion-heart...will forever be
remembered – for valour,
a saviour of his people in
quest of his brave courage,
in the name of his art.

This is very rousing, Jenny, and sad as well, of course.

Liked this stanza especially:-

"with anticipation they
charge...side by side,
sniffing, wind...rain,
gusting the tempestuous air...
they gallop like thunder,
riders blood boils...
no room for blunder,"

Well done, indeed;-)
