A New Beginning

from the ABC set My Poems

If I could only start again
I’d be a little horse,
I’d snuggle in my comfy bed
And wake you with my snorse.

But if I couldn’t be a horse
I’d like to be a cat,
I’d faddle up a furry fuss
And eat ‘til I got fat.

The thing I wouldn’t like to be -
I wonder if you’ll guess?
A bungee-jumping rattlesnake?
Oh, would you love me less?

A scrawny little sideways crab?
A dog without a beard?
A mountain-climbing rhubarb plant?
Now, wouldn’t that be weird?

A bull without a matador?
A wolf without a sheep?
A tax collector with no tacks?
A look without a leap?

A book with pages falling out?
A clown without a grin?
A bride without a wedding dress
Or church to wear it in?

If I could choose what not to be,
I wouldn’t be a poet,
For though I write so beautif’ly,
It’s only me what know it.

this would be such a fantastic poem to illustrate. Lovely nonsense!

is this a competition entry?

Skunk | June 28, 2011 - 05:41

Thanks for commenting, poncey. No, it isn't a comp entry. I'm still trying to come up with something for that. No luck yet...

I liked this Skunk.
It inspired this slight adaptation.

A bungee-jumping rattlesnake…
Falling fast and flustered.
A mountain-climbing rhubarb plant
An avalanche of custard :o)

Jenny.

Thanks Mangone. Yours sounds like a wartime speech from Churchill. We will fight them in the mountains, we will fight them in the custard...

Thanks Pia. I wish I could draw. Can't even do a matchstick horse!

Skunk | June 28, 2011 - 19:03

Pleased you liked it Jenny. Thanks!

Mangone | June 30, 2011 - 08:39

My thinking was simply that you can't have rhubarb without custard :O)
