An Ordinary Life

from the ABC set My Poems

I’m an ord’nary guy with an ord’nary life,
An ord’nary dog and an ord’nary wife,
My ord’nary house has six ord’nary rooms,
Tap ord’nary feet to such ord’nary tunes.

I believe all I’m told, I know how to fit in,
No good comes of dreaming, and thinking’s a sin,
My ultimate goal is to reach ninety-two,
What else has an ord’nary fellow to do?

My ord’nary verse speaks of ord’nary things,
My Junes all have moons and my birds fly on wings,
My loves are all flowery, my babies all chubby,
My wives all content with their ord’nary hubby.

I know Jews are bad, it’s in all of the papers,
They take all our money and murder and rape us,
They’re hiding some down in the cellar next door,
But I’ve done my duty; they’ll soon get what-for.

The soldiers arrive in the dark of the night,
They drag out the Jews, serves the nasty things right,
They’re kicking them now, just as I’d like to do,
I know all the right things to think of a Jew.

I know this is right, doesn’t everyone say?
Then why do I now end up feeling this way?
Two ord’nary arms with two ord’nary wrists,
An ord’nary razor blade, hope God exists.

While I quite like the style of this poem I don't think it helps to paint Jews as people all tarred with the same brush as the right-wing Israeli government... so, I'm hoping that this poem will not be misunderstood by those who simply skim.

a poem about sheep, guilt, realisation, faith, alsorts -interesting, felt the last verse came along too suddenly to convince me, but a poem thats bound to make a reader think, obviously not a bad thing, according to your poem :)

This is three bad poems lightly stitched together to make an even worse one. It's a repository of ideas that I might one day use but probably won't. I'm not brave enough to read my own poetry.

I like this Skunk. It's timely and you found a way to talk about a taboo subject. Obviously your ord'nary guy doesn't make much distinction between Jews and the current Israeli government.
