Whene’er I’m felling light and gay
I have a little war
I ask myself near every day,
What, is it good? Ka-phwoaaar!
My tanks are full of soldier boys
Dressed in their finest clothes,
Quite soon they’ll all be burned to toast,
But that’s the way it goes.
I have some soldier lasses too,
I love to hear them scream,
I tell them in my earnest voice,
You’re dying for the queen.
A bullet in the softer parts,
A thing of solemn beauty,
Scream for your mums with all your hearts,
But always do your duty.
Those lovely words that we adore,
Our country, queen and rose,
Are not like shit and wank and fuck,
Who’d fight for words like those?
Line up, you little soldier boys,
This battle’s word is ‘honour’,
Put lots of bullets in your foes,
Make sure each one’s a goner.
Don’t ask, what are we fighting for?
We’ve taught you all the words,
It’s freedom, lads, it’s God and war,
It’s flowers and dicky-birds.
Each bullet kills a nasty ‘fuck’,
Each bomb wipes out a ‘willy’.
Make sure the good words win the day,
We don’t want to look silly.
Whene’er I’m feeling light and gay,
I have a little war,
I’m not the one who’ll have to die,
That’s what you lot are for.

Sadly, there being a recession and all, recruitment will be very high at the moment. It was in the 80's. If you join, even if it is only for the money, you can't exactly refuse to fight. I did, I couldn't.
Some might argue that a better reason to attempt a war on Islamic terrorism is so that we can say 'willy' and 'fuck'. Or even do the latter without risking a lapidary attack - if you're unlucky enough to be a woman. It's unfortunate that all wars are about access to resources. I suppose that's why Mad Bob still grips power with his fingertips in Zimbabwe; his country is bankrupt and does not sit on a lake of black gold.
The politicians' greatest sin is one of hubris; we are no longer a major player in world politics; we do not fund our Armed Forces like a major player, they have no right to send ill-equipped troops into battle for the sake of their own delusions.
As usual you hide something quite important behind a jokey verse.

Bearing in mind that it’s Easter it is probably a very good time to point out that wars are fought, as skunk and Ewan say, for God and greed.
To put it in a nutshell for religion;
because for the greedy, profit IS their religion!
So what’s that to do with Easter?
If you look beneath the dogma Christ was crucified for attacking the greed of the Jewish establishment. Don’t forget that Christ, some say, the god of peace, drove the money changers out of the temple saying “You have turned my Father’s house into a den of thieves!”… the only time I can remember where the bible suggest that Jesus was angry!
So - as is still being demonstrate all around the world, rogues will put up with almost anything except a threat to their income - the establishment turned the people against Christ and forced the Roman’s to crucify Him!
Now, you might have thought that this would mean that Christian countries would realise that Christ was forcibly reminding people that the Bible states “The LOVE of money is the ROOT of ALL EVIL” but somehow, along the way, we have been brain-washed into thinking that the love of money is a desirable trait…
So long as you don’t get caught stealing it!
So, back to war, why are we still killing people in the name of God and country?
Is it because we’re pretending to care so much for the people we’re killing that we are killing them for their own good! No, that was last week, this week it’s because we want to save the world from terrorism and we are quite willing to terrorise everyone else in the process.
Meanwhile, Buddha/God is no doubt looking on and taking notes as ABBA sing -
Money, money, money, ain’t if funny, it’s a rich man’s world!
