Slaughter to the Lamb

Slaughter to the Lamb – Tony Blair's token response to his responsibilities of sending soldiers into war.

I’ve never had the desire
To touch such an ice cold hand
I wasn’t attracted by the flames
I’m not slaughter to the lamb

Your principles are blow dried
Your morals light with sheen
Your truth so badly cut and dried
But I know where you’ve been

I will not follow your footprints
Nor hang on to your word
The idea that you are the answer
Is as stupid as it is absurd

It’s a look-alike coronation
Of cosmetic queens and kings
You were bound to get elected
You know how to work these things

And your insipid pontificating
Just means you’re articulately bland
I can smell the lies you’re burning
To the slaughter of the lamb

Your advisors desensitised you
To watching parents disbelief
The blood of their sons and daughters
Is still searching out for grief

Why don’t you visit the graves
Of those who fought your whim
If you believe that Jesus saves
I can’t wait till you meet with him

Its a good poem and some points very well made, although I don't personally agree that Tony Blair was unaffected by his decisions. I mean I think he was concerned about the dangers of Saddam, rightly, and did something about it, unlike many other prevaricating western leaders and politicians, who couldn't make a bold or brave decision because they're such straw men/women. Thank Blair for policy successes in Sierra Leone and Kosova too.
