Where were we, when we were there?
I remember the place but have long since
forgotten the way. You were there too,
I remember your taste, and there was a thing
to do with flowers, or was it travel, or stars?

When was it, where we were then?
I recall the time, but what gnomon could
have measured it? Then there was you,
your smile had a part to play, and wasn’t it
a time of omens, or was it cuckoos, or wine?

Did time and place correspond in those days?
Perhaps we were in different locations, mine
chosen by inclination, yours by declination?
Where could it have been? I know the map
reference and the date, but where was the place?
