I wan't the minimalist ed who gave the cherry but I can quite see why it was given - and I would have done the same. It's funny and silly, that's why - and it doesn't do any harm to appreciated humour and silliness.
Sheesh, some people. You get a cherry, 97 reads, not to mention loads of ROTFLMAOs, even a dash of controversy and now you want a credit for minimalism!
Who would let something as simple as this dampen their spirits? lol
Well, go watch some old pensioner dribble away, because your killin' the joy bud :)
Fun is fun, no matter how it's described!
The funny side of this piece isn't in it's minimalism, but instead in it's simplistic view. lol
Simplistic? Au contraire. I think a lot of thought went into the choice of words. Why 'Be nice' for instance and not 'Be nasty' or 'Be rude'....and should it end with a question mark or a period (full-stop) or just nothing? Was the piece written simply to annoy a few stuffy old fuddy-duddies or can it be seen as a multi-layered statement about contemporary society? Is niceness in fact a prerequisite for cherry acquisition? Niceness itself being such an ill-defined and somewhat bland concept is the writer suggesting cherry seekers stick to the more anodyne kind of subject matter? And, to enlarge on blighter's point, to whom is the niceness addressed? There's a lot going on here.
I think that some of you are overlooking what's really important here! The most creative part of this piece is, in my opinion, the title. 'Be nice' is just an afterthought.
Good point firstimewriter. The title can almost be read as an integral part of the piece. The whole thing resonates with irony. The juxtaposition of the imperative with a word suggesting chintz furniture and well-manicured lawns is particularly fortuitous.
Yep, can't go wrong with a bit of the old epater la bourgeoisie, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. I'll stick my neck out and say we may be looking at the future of literature here.

I agree with Editor,t.cook Tony.
We are all mostly at different levels,
in life,on here Abc and "Be Nice" to see
someone who has worked hard,or new to
get a cherry!I have seen a spelling mistake
and they have a cherry!must slipped through.
A Cherry=can be a way of expressing a Poem Story
whatever or encouragement if new trying.
Or maybe try harder. But I do like down to earth
words. So one can understand it more, without going
to a dictionary.I didn't know Track,Forums,FAQ;
but now year on here,do?But when first clicked on
saw a row of cherries on a page or poem really made
me think, what ever are these for frightening. Now
I have 5.A Cherry, can be contents, spooky, mind blowing, interesting happy sad,knowledgeable,intriguing,life,anything.Punctuation,Eduactional,happenings. But unless Competing, and comp;that we are not,it's a bit like we are and may have swollowed the dictionary.By using and exrpessing big words.Hence me trying "Give Me The Simple Life" POEM.I am sure? I will get loads of comments on this. Look at our perscriptions, can we understand the jargon?I know loads of big words, and many I have never heard of on AbcTales. So "Be Nice". Can mean anything 2 words. But I do use,a dictionary now? Some words not in there. We once always said in a canteen saying,"Have a good day".And School reports "Could do better?" "Little words mean a lot".
yep!Have a good, brilliant,excellent,thrilling,mind
blowing,exciting,illuminating,week-end.

To be simplified.
I completley agree with you blighter. This is not art. This is a philisophical manifesto. This is the cry of the suffering intellectual. This is a pure expression of mankinds abilitity to create and therefore representative of the worlds intellectual triumps. Its like pure communism, drug induced euphoria and The Big Rock Candy Mounations all rolled into one.
And whats more, it can be acessed completley free of charge, no more expensive revelotions or pot smoking.
To call this art is to call Sigmund Freud dog feaces.
Wow I have never read so many comments about one
subject, but then Iam new to all this.
I say as thumper said in Bambi, "If you have'nt got
anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

That means I could get a cherrypick everytime I submit. You see I am always nice ;) ;)
chuck | July 6, 2010 - 19:38
Well I'm not so sure blighter. I see being nice got bighand a cherry. Or maybe it was for minimalism?
Highhat | July 6, 2010 - 20:42
I think it was the minimalism ;)
chuck | July 6, 2010 - 20:58
Perhaps the minimalist ed. can tell us the rationale behind the cherry? In one or two well chosen words of course.
LKilby | July 7, 2010 - 00:44
Liked it? < --- The rationale :P
Maybe it was just the simplistic creativity of this thing we call 'a joke' that got the Cherry :P
It was creative, as is the point of writing :D

Good explanation tony. Thanks.

Although no points for minimalism :D

It's just a bit of fun blighter. Kinda like a vuvuleza at a symphony concert.

I was more referring to what you can take away from the piece Chuck, than to what went into constructing it :P
Although the ideas on contempoary society were an excellent point :D
And annoying the fuddy duddies :D

Lol, your comment has changed three times?
I also have no idea what you mean by the epater la bourgeoisie thing, is it french?
*Raises scythe* NECK!!! Lol
This is a great piece of literature. I wish school's studied it...
chuck | July 8, 2010 - 22:16
Compulsive editing. The quest for le mot juste (more French).
Yes, I think it would be the ideal literary form for schools. Kids could write and keep up with twitter at the same time.
