Better Late than Never

from the ABC set Lurve Ramblings

Heart for sale but priced to sell,

please view; in lonely’s bitter well,

it may be damaged; hard to tell

but maybe you can fix it.

Mind can be bought too, but wait,

It’s in a rather battered state,

I’ve worked it rather hard of late;

my fear of false love, tricks it.

Instinct, lost its self-belief,

I think that fear, may be the thief,

must be found, or there’ll be grief,

when doubt, is so unceasing.

Passion’s here and over stocked,

the store just needs to be unlocked,

it opened once but it was mocked

and now it needs releasing.

Love – I’m told, could hold the key,

could break the chains and set it free.

If you have love, is it for me?

I’ll be reciprocating.

Life has been on hold, it’s true

and that may well seem strange to you

but now I want to start anew;

I’m finished with debating!

Doubt has just got up and left,

I must admit, I’m not bereft;

I could have shown a lot more deft-

but better late, than never.

Pride, my foolish, frightful foe,

come with me, if you will but know,

from now on, you will only go,

where I decide; …for ever!

Love the two opening lines, Chris! The rhyme scheme is lovely too - the poem really bounces along. Well done :)

A nice one, Chris, with a good rhythm and rhyming scheme. Enjoyable.
