Blackbird Rapper

from the ABC set Humorous Ramblings

While strolling on one summers’ morn,
this day’s sun just newly born;
through a hedge, as I did pass,
I spied a blackbird in the grass.
As I admired his yellow beak
he turned to me and he did speak

‘Whatchyou eyeballing me fo’ man
I’s tryin’ to eat, is you a fan?
Gimme some space an’ haul yo’ ass
cos wit you dare, I feel harass!’
You know what I’m sayin’?’

Well I was quite taken aback
I’d no intent to spoil his snack
But I must say that to my mind
I’d earned no right to be maligned
And expectations of my walk
Did not include a blackbirds’ talk

‘Dude, why’s you lookin so uncool
You tink you rappin wit a fool?
I earned my wings man; tha’s a fac’
You tink I’m dumb jus’ cos I’m black?
You know what I’m sayin’?’

I offered that I thought him rude
and that he’d quite ruined my mood.
On felicity he’d cast a cloud
which really shouldn’t be allowed;
these were my fields here after all
and where I stood, should be my call

‘Hey don’ start givin’ me that jive
cos you don’ care if I survive.
I’ll hit the sky cos I ain’t dead
and pop a crap down on yo’ head.
You know what I’m sayin’?’

From that day on, I listen for
the dawn chorus at my back door.
It lifts my heart; as ever did
and that rude rapper must be hid
The blackbird’s still by far the best;
(I hope a cuckoo finds his nest!)

You know what I’m sayin’?’

Lol I'm suprised to say I liked that piece of writing, damn what an idea for a piece of writing.I was addicted to read on and on man,lol kept me wanting to see what that rude boi started chattin ya getz me. Lol,that was entertaining dude, lol reminded me of my cousin(a rude yet wannabe lol)

Liked this piece because it also potrayed real life situations.

"Dude, why’s you lookin so uncool
You tink you rappin wit a fool?
I earned my wings man; tha’s a fac’
You tink I’m dumb jus’ cos I’m black?
You know what I’m sayin’?’"

That was a good verse because it connoting that most rappers are Black. Most stereotyped to be dumb but yet they stereotype themselfs sometimes by saying "Is it casue I'm Black".As an African American I was glad you put that verse in and wasn't offended in anyway(Plus I'm a rapper).

Liked the way in the first verse it seems like it's going to be nice and wonderful scenery then the rude boi comes along.

Great work man!

P.s. funny how you're turning towards a rap type of poem, and I'm turning to poetry.Don't know if you've seen Beemes piece Love hurts,it's a rap.

Raps the new trend,ya getz me :)

What works so well for me here is the contrast of voices; the slightly (pompous?) poetical narrator with that of the rapping blackbird.

Pinda's comment must have been cheering to read. Real high quality rapping has displayed a mastery of rhyme most aspiring (please note, self included) poets on here can never hope to attain. This goes all the way back to the days of the Sugar Hill Gang and The Furious Five.

Well done 3Leaf

Ewan

PS... hey Pinda Rap's not that new.

Chris, you have surpassed yourself with this one - I think it's the best you've ever written! I might have to beg you to let me use it in a class - the kids would love it! I also love the contrast of the voices and the attitude of the blackbird fits so well with their boldness!

p.s. Love it! Can't stop re-reading it!

threeleafshamrock | June 14, 2009 - 16:07

Hey Pinda, SO glad that you liked this 'half rap' lol. Was going to dedicate it to you anyway as you suggested doing something 'American' but was afraid you might be offended by it. Thanks for your kind words; it means a hell of lot coming from you.
Keep this up and your gonna have the whole of ABCtales rapping; You know what I’m sayin’?’ ;) Peace!

Chris ;)

threeleafshamrock | June 14, 2009 - 16:17

Thanks Ewan ;) Made the narrator a bit of a pompous toff purposely to accentuate the difference. To be honest, I was not so sure that it had really worked but it seems to have struck a chord.
Just illustrates the advantage producing work on a site like this because it is so hard gain an analytical balance when reviewing our own work.

Thanks for the feed back; appreciated. ;-)

threeleafshamrock | June 14, 2009 - 16:25

Jen, you should be my psychologist; 'the best thing you've ever written' ...Wow!! As for 'Can I use it in class?'...Does Dolly Parton sleep on her back? Of course you can but please give me the feedback, I would be interested to hear what they think ;).

Chris XX ;)

P.S. Feel free to read it as often as you like, I won't mind at all LOL.

threeleafshamrock | June 14, 2009 - 23:26

Hi Amna, Thanks a lot. When I was born, I'm told the doctor said 'There is something funny about this one.' I like to think that he meant it in a humorous way lol. XX

threeleafshamrock | June 14, 2009 - 23:27

Thanks Magic; I'm trying to think of ways to incorporate this blackbird into every piece from now on lol. XX

This reads like a very unlikely conversation between Shakespeare and Soulja Boy... ;-p

'I’ll hit the sky cos I ain’t dead
and pop a crap down on yo’ head.'

I burst out laughing on this one! The play on words is just so clever. Amazing work.

I honestly think you'd make a career for yourself as a stand-up comedian ;-D

Again, amazing, hilarious and quite an educational piece as well! A well deserved cherry! I'd give you a whole bunch of them if it were up to me! ;-)

Nathan.

threeleafshamrock | June 15, 2009 - 21:19

Thanks a lot Nathan, the wife reckons I would want to start making a career out of something soon lol. I'll settle for the one VERY unexpected cherry; thanks for reading and your support ;)
