Bring my heart with you to England 1914-18

from the ABC set The Words of War

Bring me a flower
from a hedgerow in Kent
and garnish my breast,
as they sound the lament.
Let each sigh escaping
be filled with its scent;
Then bring my heart with you to England

My bones are scattered
with those that were here;
as they stood beside me
midst carnage and fear.
So mumble your prayers
and leave us a tear;
Then bring my heart with you to England.

This is beautiful, I really like it. It took a second reading to fully appreciate what your are talking about, and it is so sad.

When we see another war unfolding poetry like yours is needed to remind us of what really happens behind the headlines. Excellent, and you did it in so few words.

Thanks Julie, it would be great if all war could be stopped for ever; don't know if it will ever happen, until we blow up the planet - then nobody wins!
