Love’s Grief

from the ABC set Lurve Ramblings

Would that I could rise on wings of grace
to soar toward the mountains of our past,
once there, alight and look upon your face
and hold the hands of time to lock them fast.

I would gently trace the contours of your lips,
still sanguine; tinged with luster, full with life
and lie within the valley of your hips;
abandoning all hopelessness and strife.

But with wings furled and grace a stranger here;
the mountains sought, all lost in shrouded mist.
I stumble; cold, bereft of hope or cheer,
for bloodless husks cannot return a kiss.

Felt a cold chill down my spine when I read that verse.
Short yet so emotive, good work.

I agree, that last stanza was darkly powerful, especially liked the bloodless husk!
Your poems have a broad reach, well done.

Did notice you made too and too when you possibly meant to and to in the first stanza.

Such a brilliant poem Chris, even though there's despair the beauty still lingers! Impossible to pick out my favourite lines ;)

This is really beautiful. The imagery is mouth-watering ;-)

The middle stanza is my favourite, but the whole thing is just perfect in my opinion. The atmosphere of the poem is enchanting. The structure and rhythm are just right for this poem. As always, well done and thank you for posting another great read.

Nathan.
