Perfect Symbol (March 17th)

from the ABC set shamrock's ramblings

A little green flurry;
Clustered, Clinging
to the hedgerow ditch.
Between giant rocks;
Shaky Foundations!
Almost soil-less
How does it hold?
Why this wild place
when the lush field
is just the other side?

Why fight the windy
fury of nature?
Why so determined
to claim this small
unfruitful territory?
Would it not be
easier to comply;
submit, bow to such
a powerful and surely
insurmountable enemy?

And yet, there it
furls proudly,
defiantly; determined
not to cede this wild
untameable place.
I pluck a little
and place it
in my lapel.
I’ll wear this today
As a symbol of my
Homeland; this little
Sprig of Shamrock.

I absolutely love this, mate. It exudes the emotion of the true Ireland; the one often forgotten in the celebrational devices of green beer and cartoon leprechauns. Excellent work.

Chris, I had such a busy day, I didn't even remember what day it was until I saw footage of the celebrations on the late news last night. It would have been nice to be in a little pub somewhere, having a tipple to Paddy but alas, not to be. I hope you had a good day, though.

Thanks for the congrats and back at you too, mate.
