"the shadows play tricks"

from the ABC set ∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙∙this poem book that he gave

the low moon bemoans itself
similarly the reed for the reedbed
and i for you.

perhaps in the lull of night
surrounded in hushed
moon glimmer,
the shadows play tricks
and i am there.

i lower my pen and
cease writing the
story of separation; in
moments the moon
begins her lament.
