The 30th Of Julia (IP)

from the ABC set Poems

The 30th of Julia,
they say, is really, truly a
remarkably peculiar
kind of day.

Of all the dates within the year
there is no day that’s quite as queer.
Some people greet this day with dread
and simply choose to stay in bed.

On the 30th of Julia
even nature’s unrulier;
your senses seem to fool ya
on this day.

The sun sets sideways in the sky;
and blackbirds, only backwards, fly;
evergreens turn bright pink and blue
and dogs and cats ask, “How d’you do?”.

Then it starts raining Belgian buns;
you’re run down by stampeding nuns.
It’s quite enough to drive you mad
and when it’s over, you’ll be glad…

For the 31st of Julia,
it’s really not peculiar;
you could say that it’s truly an
ordinary day.

Thanks, pia. Glad you found it amusing and quaint.
I think I used almost every word that rhymes with Julia in this poem.

I also did a '30th of Julia' song IP
that's in my Lyrics folder.

Barmingly chamy. :) If only it would rain Belgian buns...

Thankyou, Big Bad G. I was just trying for a literal
interpretation of the IP, as if Julia was a real month.
