“Let’s play the Alphabet game. I just made it up”, said Billy, one day, “It’s like a board game but in your head”.
“Well, how do you play?”, asked Lilly, eager to try it.
“Start at the letter A. Now you have to think of a word beginning with A”, said Billy.
“Acorn”, said Lilly, “That begins with A”.
“Right. Now, Acorn has 5 letters, so move 5 places through the Alphabet. What letter have you come to now?”, asked Billy.
“E”, said Lilly.
“Right. Now you have to think of a word beginning with E”, said Billy.
“Egg”, said Lilly, “That begins with an E”.
“Right and Egg has three letters. So, go forward another three letters through the Alphabet”, said Billy.
“Okay. I see how you move through the game but how do you win?”, asked Lilly.
“The first person to reach Z wins. Oh, and because there aren’t many X words, I’ve made a special rule for X. If you reach the letter X then you have to go back to the beginning and start again”, said Billy.

Thank you, Rich. Glad you think it would make a good game.
I'm also open to any suggestions about improvements that could be made to the game. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be more than happy to include them. Perhaps more rules?

Thank you very much, Pia.
I was looking at the ancient Egyptian game 'Senet' and the whole branch of 'games' known as 'racing games' that include Ludo and Backgammon and it occurred to me that you could race through the 26 letters of the alphabet.
Apart from becoming a writer, it's always been my dream to create other types of cultural artifacts;
games, toys, traditions; carols/nursery rhymes etcetera because I love those things.
