A spouse is different to a slave. When we think of the word ‘Marriage’ we think of a contract of love, commitment and mutual respect but when we think of the word ‘ownership’, we think of possession of an object that feels no pain and needs no rights.
If we were wed to the land; took vows to care for and respect and protect the land rather than just buying and selling the land like an object then, I believe, we would have a better relationship with nature.

Hear! Hear! my sentiments exactly. It sounds like
you hold all the same feelings as me.
I really liked this JoHn.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Jenny.
I'm really happy that you left a comment rather than one of the mocking cynics who also lurk, in large numbers, upon the internet.
Glad you liked it. Many kind hearts make much hope.

Interesting theory, John, and one a peasant like me would welcome. However, it seems most of the planet is now married to money. Hope you have a good day.
