The Magic Company – Part 7

from the ABC set The Magic Company

“You just can’t get good help these days”, said Davorian, reaching into his bag; pulling out his tiny, squirming chief creative officer and peeling off Mr Glister’s shiny suit like a sweet wrapper before gulping him down whole.

Then Davorian got up from his seat at the board room table and, in the distance, Rancliffe and his friends saw a gargantuan figure rise up from the earth.

“What is that?”, asked Hallah, open mouthed in awe at the sight of the enormous thing that was now striding towards them, “A giant?”.

“No. Much worse than that”, said Rancliffe, “A corporation”.

“Well, how do the four of us defeat something of that size?”, said Trev, a towering self-doubt dwarfing the courage in his heart.

“Don’t be fooled by its size, my friends”, said Rancliffe as the rumbling of the lumbering giant’s footsteps grew louder, “Nothing holds that Titan together except fear but we have real things that bind us. Principles; love and humanity and, when we are united we are far stronger than it”.

The laughter of the ravenous, giant corporation grew deafening as it drew closer to them; the Earth shook and shattered and whole forests were flattened by its enormous trampling feet but its laughter swiftly ceased and its gigantic jaw dropped a mile and a half when it saw, not four puny people now but a little giant with four arms clutching four weapons, that was part Dwarf, part Halfling, part elfmaiden and part human and then, bending back a tall tree, the little giant catapulted itself onto the torso of the large one, fighting with all its might and fury, using its battle axe like a mountaineers pickaxe to drag itself higher until finally, reaching the summit, with gritted teeth and steely determination in its eyes, it buried its battle axe deep in the corporation’s head.

All of the executives around the board
room table gasped as they saw their
Chairman,Davorian staggering about with
an axe blade lodged in the back of his skull
and then, seeing their opportunity to take
over the company, launched themselves,
baying and growling and snarling, on top
of him like a pack of wild dogs, tearing
him to pieces and fighting, tooth and
nail,amongst themselves for his position.

Then, looking up, the four friends saw the head of the giant corporation start to crumble and, when that happened, the whole of its enormous, sky scraping body started to fall.

The little giant fell too, but unlike
the corporation, it landed upon its feet
while the corporation, striking the earth
hard, shattered into pieces with an almighty
crash.

And, when the dust had settled upon the
ruins, there was nothing left of the
corporation but there was something or
someone moving amidst the rubble and then,
their hearts lifting, all four of the
friends saw that it was the little girl
they had been searching for, Florian.

“Magic is free again”, said Rancliffe as the sun emerged from behind a cloud and a bird whistled in a nearby tree, “As it always should have been”.

“I thank you; all of you”, said Florian, her voice like the soaring of triumphal music, “The wild beast of Capitalism has ruled over our world for too long but now it is time for the Angel of socialism to spread her wings ”.

And, as the little girl smiled, Rancliffe felt those parts of him that had been turned into granite slowly become flesh again; infact the whole world, which had been grim and grey until then, seemed to be returning to its old self.

Another great adventure, well-wisher. May the angel of socialism set her eyes on News International next.

I agree. I've never seen a real human being
that more resembles a story book villain
than Rupert Murdoch.

Thanks, Pia.

No, but I wonder how he will go out? Like Robert Maxwell or like Charles Foster Kane?
