Sing your song of freedom, little bird.
Though I can’t speak your language, not a word,
I know that you are singing about joy.
The joy of being outside prison walls.
Sing your song of freedom, little bird.
It reminds me of birdsong from back home.
Your singing brings back memories to me
of what it used to feel like to be free.
Sing your song of freedom, little bird
and, when you’ve sung your heart out, fly away.
I wouldn’t keep you caged up here with me.
For, though you’d stay, your song would die away.
Sing your song of freedom, little bird.
I thank you for that gift you bring to me;
a vision of the hope that lies ahead,
when I shall spread my wings too, then fly free.

Hi well-wisher,
I think this is a wonderful poem, what better than
to hear the song of the blackbird, who isn't caged,
or the pigeons cooing, or the Crows cawing, or the
Cukoo, all the birds of the air, singing for their
freedom. Simply wonderful.
You definitely summed it all up in this beautiful
poem.
Great IP.
Jenny.

Thanks, pia and Jenny. It's a good thing that the human ear exists because it can appreciate the beauty of birdsong.

H! lovely poem, on nature of bird's
one can't beat, to listen, but you have
said all in one nutshell. Yes, I whistle back
now, do you believe they respond, I get weird looks.
But then we all need love of some kind.
Good one for the (IP)

Thankyou, julie. I'm glad you liked it.
I should try whistling at birds, they usually get startled and fly away when they see/hear me approaching.
I think that my favourite bird is the
songthrush because it repeats its complicated song twice. My next favourite is the blackbird because of its long, silvery whistle.

Three cheers for the cherries.

Hi well-wisher,
just popped in to say congratulations on the cherries, I think the birds would say well deserved.
Jenny.

yes me too, congratulations on
the cherrie, I think the bird's
are hearing you. I belive there
was a film and record called "Albatross"
by Pink Floyd, still have somewhere tune
only. Think it was about "Albatross" visited
regularly by a prison window. Well what I mean,
is listen to the bird's sound of call, and repeat
it, like weea wit, whistle twice, listen may hear it respond back.
Nightingale is a lovely singing bird. It was scary it was going to rain in a park once, I looked up and
there in a row, was the line of blackbird's high. Looking down at me. ugh! Like the film !Alf Hitchcock in. I was and still am, hopeless punctuation, get a lot of help on here, by Editor.
and AbcTaler's. Otherwise find it hard. Don't forget
cat's and any pets are company to.

Thank you, Jenny and Julie. You could be right about the birds. This morning, when I went out, there were about four or five little sparrow like birds sitting on my garden gate.

I loved this, well-wisher, and running through my head at the same time was Annie Lennox's 'Little Bird'. A haunting duo.
More than well done on the richly deserved cherry.

Thank you, Tina. I agree with you about Annie Lennox.
I've always liked her DIVA album and the stuff that she did as part of the Eurythmics. My favourite Eurythmics/Annie Lennox song is 'Julia' from the album '1984'.

Inspiring! This poem is perfectly crafted, each line moving on from the previous and onto the next so effortlessly.
It's not easy to use repetition effectively, but you do it just right with the first line of each stanza. It adds a different dimension to the poem in its gentle, almost camouflaged way.
A well deserved cherry.
Nathan.
