All of the swallows who’d flown south;
they came back home too soon;
they’d seen my sweet love’s smiling mouth
and thought that it was June.
They’d seen her hair so fair and bright;
her beautiful blue eyes
but thought they’d seen the golden light
that fills blue summer skies.
Yet, far too weary, were their wings
to fly back south again
and so the birds began to sing
and my love heard them then,
begging of her, “Please smile for us
and we shall chirp your praise;
we’re happy where you are because
it's so like summer days".
