Two Counting Poems For Children

from the ABC set Children's Poems

Creature Countdown

A Counting creature is a horrible sight,
it’s a terrifying ten feet tall
and it has nine clawed toes upon each hand
and eight crooked fingers on each foot,
and seven wriggling legs
and six wiggling arms
and five roaring mouths
and four listening ears
and three sniffing noses
and two horned heads
and each head has one big, green, glowing eye.

Eleven Elephants

Here are eleven elephants
of which you ought to know,
the first is William Tellephant
famous for his cross bow,
then Elephantom’s that are scary ghouls
and Sillyphants that are clowns and fools,
Spellephant’s that cast magic spells
and Shellephants that have a hard shell,
Angelephants that have big white wings
and Bellephants that go ding-dong-ding,
Camelephants that have two large humps,
Unwellephants with measles and mumps,
Yellephants that are noisy and shout
and Smellephants that can sniff things out.
