We Can Rely On Love (Happy 30's Depression Era Show Tune)

from the ABC set Lyrics

1st Verse:

Nevermind your Nostradamus,
I know nothing’s going to harm us,
long as I am yours and you are mine.

What the weathers like on Wall Street
is not what it’s like on all streets,
when I’m with you everything’s just fine.

Chorus:

Long as your with me tomorrow,
I know there’s no cause for sorrow;
though we may beg, steal or borrow,
I know we will get by on love.

And what will be will be alright,
as long as you still hold me tight,
though fate may put up quite a fight,
I know we can rely on love.

2nd Verse:

No matter what cataclysm,
I can’t share their pessimism,
long as I still feel my hand in yours.

Skeptics may scoff and may doubt us
but there’ll be rainbows about us,
regardless if it rains or pours.

Bridge:

‘Cause love is that one source of happiness
that’s only dependent on a caress.
Yes, love, if we swear that we’ll never part,
no bad lucks big enough to break our hearts.

Chorus:

Long as your with me tomorrow,
I know there’s no cause for sorrow;
though we may beg, steal or borrow,
I know we will get by on love.

And what will be will be alright,
as long as you still hold me tight,
though fate may put up quite a fight,
I know we can rely on love.

new Well-wisher
Love the poem and the chorus.
Carpenters had few words,
You know I'll beg steal or borrow
Caring and sharing
the most important thing
not just putting on the wedding ring!
So the trials and tribulations
can be sorted out in situations
Like crossing the bridges when they arise!
Don't cry my pretty baby
Don't cry!
I am hopeless at punctuation to.

Thank you so much, Julie.

I often hear the present global economic problems compared to those of the 1930's but one big difference is that the culture of the 1930's was rich and fertile; great jazz music/cinema/
literature/art/art deco design; fashion and style. Even great newspaper comic strips like Little Orphan Annie.

Very good indeed John- but I disagree- I think we have a varied and high cultural standard today as well.

To each their own. I think that everything after the 80's has been a wasteland.
