Dear Santa Clause, please don’t forget;
we’d like a very special pet,
a braw, wee border collie dug
for me and my sister to hug.
With fur as black as Christmas night
and one long stripe, that is snow white,
from head to tail and four white paws.
Please don’t forget, dear Santa Clause.

Well, they do say 'a dog is for life and not just for Christmas' but a smashing poem from a kid's point of view anyway, well-wisher. Reminded me of that song, 'How much is that doggie in the window?'
Much enjoyed.

Thank you, Tina. I'm sure that the girls in my poem are going to look after and love their Collie dog for all of its life.
The poem is partly based on a Childhood Pet. Border Collies are very beautiful, smart and vivacious and so I wanted to celebrate them in some way.
Where I live, in Ayrshire, Scotland, the Border Collie is a very popular dog and so I was also trying to celebrate something local to me.
