Is it clear that the section in italics isn't/hasn't really happened, and that it's just poor Helen fantasising (because her dead husband's daughter by his first wife hates her guts and will therefore make life as difficult as possible)?

A cherry! Thank you, admin. :-) And thanks for taking time to comment, Tony. Of course, if it HAD happened, it would be quite a different story to the one I'd intended, though I'm not sure exactly what the alternative story could be. Will have a think about that!
