Back From Holiday

Back from holiday
in a state of exhaustion
with skin the colour of hell,
after spending all week
searching the beach
for just one shell
in a reasonable condition,
but all the crustaceans
have long since met extinction
beneath the oily brown waves
eroding the shore.
Next year, I will not
need to leave my house,
as the sea will be lapping
at my front door.
