What does it say: My first stories
were of ineptitude; rescues
gone wrong; stolen from the TV.
You couldn't see the strings in mine.
Crudely drawn figures in highly
detailed craft; improbably shaped,
belching smoke and flame across each
page torn from cheap sketch pads. Felt pen
bleeding through the paper. Plot lines
resolved with big explosive BOOMS!
in red and yellow. No romance,
no cheap psychology, no hope
of redemption for the bad guys.
There was just this simple lesson:
No-one escapes; everyone dies.
