Monday morning opens zoo gates to the
week ahead. Dawn shadows stand ponderous
and grey in living rooms, like elephants.
Half light holds a herd mentality. Last
night, these were water holes, where wild monkeys
gathered to drink and jabber. Now, muscles
twitch and eyes swivel. Streets are silent as
predators assemble. Scents of stampede
impend upon stale air. Pull the curtains:
Pachyderms panic and just disappear.
