the escapologist's final dream

on the mermaid's tongue
a taste of iron
though anathema to all her kind
with earth and fire
and the sweat of men
with a kiss for her drowning lover
whose open mouth speaks
of Atlantis
in the language of crabs and starfish
with barnacles
brimmming salt scoured eyes
too late to unlock his rusted chains

LOVE the imagery here, but am oh so saddened by the content! Wonderful.
