Hotels

In Mayfair and Park Lane,
the hotels are not windowless
and red and plastic.
Money changes hands
and puts monopoly to shame.
When people take a chance,
they do not go to jail
or go direct to jail.
They still collect their bonus
in dark corners where
they are not meant to go.
In their silver racing cars,
they tip ironic top hats
and throw the dice again.

There now, that was worth it. A great conceit, pithy and sharply topical.

A really good one, for me.

I'm more Old Kent Road but enjoyed this all the same.
