Manifesto

There is a world in which such things
have weight. Not mine. Loud words
and a pointed finger, as if the truth
has need of being shouted or identified
from a line of suspects. I would rather
walk in silent certainty of innocence,
despite the evidence in bold type. Strong
sentiment knows no pause; it demands
respect while granting none. Full flow
of vitriol from an acid tongue that etches
a new epitaph on stone. Never mind
the verse already extant. Some folk know
better with their empathy as empirical
measure of opinion. No need for facts
with such honest feelings. I cannot argue;
I can only stand aside and hope my mute
abstention is not taken as admission
of complicity. There is a manifesto I will
not sign, written by a majority of monkeys
who have no concept of the infinite.
