Persistence Of Memory

Pictures enter the language.
A moustache drips wax
within a frame of references.
Each whisker and its pair
form hands, clapping.
This rock has a face
like a beached walrus.
Some things are flesh coloured
while the wrong things
are a blue unlike the sky.
The artist paints himself
into a tree that is not there,
if he was to capture the view
with a photograph.
The branches of this meta-tree
are bare of leaves
but bear a bloom
that forms a fruit
that yields a seed
that somehow grows in this strange soil,
but fails to germinate
in ordinary dirt.
