Well, there was this one show
where a man turned into a bee
or something, after eating royal jelly.
OK, it wasn't exactly Kafka,
nor even Jeffrey Archer,
but it helped to passzzz a half an hour or szzzo.
Then, there was this murder
where she brained her husband with the Sunday roast
while it was still frozen,
then played the perfect hostess
to the policemen,
by serving up the evidence for dinner.
I recall some sort of con,
involving John Mills and an umbrella,
based on something that happened in a bar,
or maybe Dahl just overheard
the story - who played the dolly bird? -
and was he caught or did he abscond?
There were lots of affairs, I'm sure I've seen,
where one partner or the other fell
foul of some ironic twist of fate;
but real life is a more subtle form of hell
and dancers in the flames don't wait
to turn a tarot card at the final scene.
