A Sorry Soldier

Dear mum,
Dont be disappointed
In your very selfish son,
But I couldnt take the pressure
So my days have no been done.
The mud and sludge was deadly
From the stench of rotting flesh
The lice were spreading heavy
And the air was less than fresh.
The ghosts of dead men walked here
And the living couldnt live
The lads at home dont know, or care
Their minds were falsely sieved.
Im sorry If this hurts you
But I thought that I should say
I killed myself
Its sad but true
Cuz war is here to stay.

Wow! I really like this one, Yazmin.

'The lads at home dont know, or care
Their minds were falsely sieved.'

What a great line. Really original and thought provoking. There are a couple of simple spelling changes I'd make but I think that this has got a great rhythm to it and would actually work very well in performance.

Well done!

Thanks
I wrote this while studying WW2 in History and English.
I thought it deserved a poem.
