Don't wait until the day

from the ABC set Yutka's poems

Don't wait until the day I will resign,
the day I will be weak, of troubled mind
and drink my bitter cup of blood and wine.
A flood of tears then might disturb and blind

our eyes. Oh how to wake those words before
they come too late, embraces that could bind
our minds, our hearts, the most secretive core
of all that once has been! So hard to find

those unsaid words that lie like in a dream
to be awoken in the dwindling light.
Why let them sleep so long? The sunbeams seem
to kiss them gently; we can still decide

to wave all bitterness, swallow our pride,
forgive each other, hold each other tight.
