There is a cloud

from the ABC set Yutka's poems

In the slant of my room
I feel the gloom
of sleeping alone.
It has not been so
twenty five years ago
when he rasped
at my neck, nudged
my knee, moaned:
"shall we?" then showed me
who was the boss,
silently,
with a slam and a toss.
It left me at a loss.
That was quick! I felt
the stick of anger
coming up inside me.
I rolled over, stared
into the dark. Watched
the spark of love
going out.
There is a cloud
around my bed,
dark as the night,
denser than thought
heavier than lead.
