The End of an Affair

from the ABC set Yutka's poems

You were easily hooked
when I found you in mid-winter,
met you on a cool date
to melt the ice
so we both could breathe.
Ring a ring a roses, you brought your posies

You could have been a lion
jumping sky-high but you fell.
Some say not deep enough
when you fell for me
Ring a ring a roses, I've got your posies

You were in the thralls of passion
when your wife called.
you said : "I am not here, not there,
I have no home.
By then she had stopped worrying.
Ring a ring a roses, she chucked your posies

I did not let you in again,
kept the door shut,
was not amused,
The cat looked grim,
my geraniums knew and withered.
Ring a ring a roses, I flung your posies

I am no longer fond of you
You lost your words in the dark,
got what you wanted,
your tongue into my ear,
your big lips
never short for kisses....
Ring a ring a roses, no more posies
