The New Year
Posted by Baker Street on Thu, 07 Dec 2017
It has been almost thirty years since I finished high school. I did two years national service after school but my adult life is divided mainly into five year stints. I spent five or six years as a bricklayer in my early twenties. From my late twenties to early thirties I worked for five years as a barman; mostly at a bowling club. It has now been fifteen years since I quit my job and started out with creative writing. I also studied literature and languages a bit at the start but did not complete my degree. Altogether it has been just about thirty years and I am pushing on for fifty. As such my life is divided into five, five and fifteen years and I want to spend the next five years doing something else. Something completely different; although I have no idea what it could be. They say that a change is as good as a holiday, and a complete change is what I need. Who knows what 2020 will bring with these being the days of ‘miracles and wonders’? Writing is a wonderful art but there is more to life than mere pen and paper. The next five years call me and must go and see what lies on the other side. A happy new year and prosperous future to all!
