Not Good Enough

What it says, please buck up...

Cold Paradise

I used to live in Spain... currently suffering yet another heatwave. It wasn't always bright sun and flowers. One month every year all the rain and wind used to come at once... And it was cold

Old Glory Returns

Written (quite) a few years ago, when the US re-established diplomatic relations with Cuba. Posted today, because I was looking for something else on an old hard-drive and found it... just next to an unfinished novel or three... The Footballer's Fear of the Whistle

Amid the fuss about the death of another, admittedly incredible, footballer from the other side of the world, there's this. It used to be on another site. I wrote it nine years ago the week after his death. I've edited it somewhat. What a terrible waste. Still no explanation of why, although unsubstantiated reports link him to the abuse carried out by boys' coach, Barry Bennell. Anyway, we know the spotlight is hard to give up. Moonlight Over Seville

Now this IS very old. I spent a whole, hot summer in Sevilla (learning to be a TEFL teacher, as we were called then) before I moved out full time to Spain the year after. From June to September everyone in the city stays up until 4 a.m. because it's too hot to sleep. On rare occasions there'll be a cloudburst, many people just stay outside, for the rain never lasts long. The city does look wonderful in the moonlight.
