Discovering Columbo

I never watched Columbo when it was originally broadcast on network. I thought the show was for old farts.
Purely by accident, I caught an episode a couple nights ago while enjoying a stay at the Prince of Wales hotel in Niagara on the Lake.
In that episode Columbo was "one more thinging" a murder by a skanky politician played by Jackie Cooper. I loved it, possibly because now I AM an old fart.
...
Upon our return home, we fired up Roku, searched for Columbo and found on Netflix 43 episodes available. I watched the very first episode last night, Columbo nailing a sleazeball "author" played by Jack Cassidy. It was great.
The year of that show was 1968. I was in my first year of teaching.
Amazing to flashback to that time and try to imagine back then somebody saying "Oh, you missed Columbo? No problem. 49 years from now, you'll be an old fart and we'll have teevee technology that will enable you to gather all the episodes of that show which will become a big hit and stay on the air for 10 seasons. You'll be able to watch all ten seasons in a week long marathon if you want with no commercials and a LOT of Oreos."
Of course if that same guy would have thrown in "this will also be the year that the Cubs will win the World Series, North Korea will be threatening the USA with nuclear force and Donald Trump will be President.
I would have thought that guy was nuts and had been watching a little too much teevee.
Oh, and one more thing.....

As a fully paid up member of the Columbo fan club - welcome. The early ones are by far the best. Watch out for 'Last Salute To The Commodore'. Really bizarre.
Who would have thought that The Simpsons' joke about a Donald Trump presidency...

Well put! Its true. Who would have thought you could watch a whole series back to back, and politics would become such a reality TV farce? Very good!
