The time is finally right to read Hawthorne. I knew I'd get there eventually. Another example of art being forced down the throats of kids struggling to learn to read which turns them off not only from reading but from writers and writing as well. Turning off reading turns off not only illumination but also revelation. We are in the midst of an entirely new level of shaming as described by Jon Ronson. Thus illumination arrives without warning through belated revelation.
And we are shocked...shocked as we round up the unusual suspects and continue to suspect the usual ones
