Jeremiah Starfish

Like millions of others, I’m done reading Fire and Fury and half done with Daniel Ellsburg’s Doomdsay Machine. Very disquieting how they over lap. Now that we know about nuclear winter, we are well aware that a nuclear war will kill billiions of people….that’s right…BILLIONS. And we've only got nine billion to begin or end with.
Here we sit on the precipice of an avalanche where the danger of nuclear war according to many "casual observers" is at an all time high. We have an oversensitive nut as president and a little rocket man with a smaller button still large enough for Doomsday.
Yet we go on with our daily lives as optimistic, casual and helpless as starfish washing up on the infinite beach.
Every day Trump goes way beyond “I’m not a crook” and/or “You won’t have Nixon to kick around” or “a basketful of deplorables” or “it all depends on what the meaning of “is” is” or “Mission Accomplished” and still manages on to tweet another day.
How is this possible? Where is the wall awaiting this train wreck?
Every outrageous diatribe seems like the climax but each is fake and blown away by whatever is spluttered on the following days. Everything is anti-climactic.
To be crass ( and what’s wrong with that?) each anti-climax is like a fake orgasm all sound and fury indicative of nothing but another anti-climax and another until finally, all tense and turgid, we spazz out and achieve wargasm.
It will make for some excellent teevee for about forty minutes as we become glued to our sets, literally and figuratively.
Call me Jeremiah, if you like.
Each day, I’m thankful to be called anything.
Just don’t call me a stable genius because then I’ll know that you think I’m genocidally dangerous beyond the pale and you’re on 911 calling the nut squad.
Maybe even praying to Gambar.
On the hopeful side, starfish fossils date back about 450 millions years ago, if a predator bites off one of their arms they can grow the arm back, they can reproduce sexually or asexually, some are poisonous to humans, they manifest an array of beautiful colors and they live primarily on the ocean floor.
Where we come in is usually where we go out….too deep for the clouds…too wet for the fire....too resilient for arms.... too warm for the freeze.

Strange times, but I suppose
Strange times, but I suppose they always are. If starfish have survived - maybe we can too.

Now, now.... let's stay calm
Now, now.... let's stay calm here. This piece is brilliantly written, but there is another way to look at it. Mind you, The Donald was not my first choice for president, precisely because of this urge he has to say/tweet whatever comes to his mind without careful thought as to the repurcussions. But think about it; so far the man has not shown that his actions are as impulsive and reckless as his rhetoric, in fact they appear to be quite the opposite. His MO seems to be that he asks for advice and listens carefully to what is provided to him, weighing options carefully and asking pertenant questions that demonstrate his comprehension of the issue (the opposite of the assertions that I gather are contained in that work of fiction you mentioned). Aside from all that, and whether or not you believe it to be true, I must say that I get down on my knees every morning and thank heaven that Hillary Clinton is not our president. No, she may not have tweeted something irresponsible and potentially dangerous, but she would have done exactly nothing, as her predecessors have done, about the North Korean crisis, giving us perhaps another year of living on this earth before being forced to respond to a nuclear attack. At least Trump may be able to prevent our demise by striking offensive targets before - just before - the North Koreans launch a nuke in our direction, if that is what it comes to. Hillary never would. So cheer up, it could be worse! Instead of being in the hands of a stable genius, we could be in the hands of..... a Clinton.
