An Extra Step

Now that I carry a Fitbit in my pocket, I look for excuses to get in extra steps. Yesterday I was extra stepping in a nearby plaza. I walked past K Mart, Dick's, Plato's Closet, Amiel's, Empire Vision and paused for a second to see how many steps I had taken so far.
The number was 1092.
I started to take step 1093 when I heard a crash.
Right in front of me, one step away, about twenty pounds of ice had fallen from somewhere on or below the roof of Office Max.
It might not have killed me but it sure as hell would have chilled me.
Might not have sliced me but sure as hell would have iced me.
Might not have crushed me but sure as hell would have concushed me
Step 1093 could have been the end of the line.
An extra step.
A step beyond.
Today I imagine the headline I wouldn't have seen.
Ex-teacher Ice Rivers found dead under block of ice in front of Office Max.
An eye witness said, "He was just minding his own business, sorta daydreaming, when boom, it was over. Goes to show, you never know"
Especially when we do or don't take that extra step.

Stay still? Oh no that won’t
Stay still? Oh no that won’t work either. I guess comes the time that ice cube’s got your name on it.

Well done on Cheery award
Realistic humour with deeper tones.....we just never know what is around the corner which is just as well really as we would never do anything.
